Need help with cape rehydration

Submitted by Todd on 8/22/05 at 8:49 PM. ( fountain4@arkansas.net ) 216.152.3.237

I received a whitetail cape that appears to have been salt dried. I attempted to rehydrate in clear water with a small amount of Enzol B with little success. It is now in my pickling agent. I was wondering if I should try something such as Relax R by knobloch, or if someone could advise me as to what would achieve the best results. Thanks

I use it on anything dry or freezer burned and it works wonders.

did you let the cape rehydrate in the solution you mixed? It could take up to 12 hours to rehydrate depending on how thick the capes skin is (older deer). I use Ultra Soft and plain water, after it's plyable again, to the pickle it goes.

Just what Paul said.

I have had capes take upto 10 to 12 hrs to rehydrate.
Which is just simply in a bathtub full of cold water, never letting the water get to warm, All capes are different some thinner ,some thicker.Just have to keep checking it while rehydrating is all. Best of luck. Ray
