When setting the Meder IQ eyes, or any Tohickon IQ eyes on McKenzie forms, how much of the eye socket needs to be drilled out? This is just for a standard pose and eyeset, nothing fancy. Thanks for the help and info.

They should be pretty close. They make them so you should not have to alter the eye socket. Sometimes there may be a flaw but in most cases the form will be fine as is.

I just noticed that MacKenzie forms have more vertical cant than others, especially Meder. I remember from a Phil Helms demo once he suggested deepening the socket, but I can't remember the form number. I like to use a 1 1/4" spade bit to alter if I need too, especially to make a forward look. Sorry I couldn't help more, good luck.
do you have the Meder eyes with or without the extra dark band. I was told that the extra brown band was to simulate a nictitating membrane.
I've noticed that with the extra brown band you have to put one eye in backwards to give it the ability to show white in the front corner of one of your eyes.
The ones without the extra band allow you to put them in normally.
I usually deepen the socket a little too much and fill it back up with clay as this allows for easy adjustment.
You can get by with nothing more than a knife or other tool to deepen the socket. If you are going to use nictitating membranes you may also want to shave a small sliver of the front edge of the inside of the eye,(hopefully that makes sense) this is to allow enought room for your plastic membrane to be slide inbetween the glass and the inner eye skin.
