early deer make the nicest mounts. cuts are hard to hide so take care to aviod any cuts, other than that I feel that there easier than light deer. the best deer I ever mounted came from texas, talk about a summer coat. It was a joy to mount.

Be especially careful opening the ears

Early season deer are more prone to flea and tick bits on the back sides of their ears making the skin often like Swiss cheese to open. Be very careful if you're using an ear opener tool.
