would expect someone to throw it around some. I would use some pipe foam and wrap all the beams and times. Then pack it tight in the crate with foam peanuts so the shock from throwing the crate around doesn't snap anything. Take good pictures before shipping and while it is in the packaging. Insure it for what you feel the true value is. I would fill the skull plate with bondo for added strength and secure it good by this point to the crate.
I've had some shipped to me and they were in great shape when I received them. They weren't 190 class though.
To be safe I would suggest you box it in 1/2 plywood that way there is no chance of damage.
thanks, i guess what i am more woried about is the rack not returning. i will crate it well, i can control that..once out of my hands i am worried that it wont return. anyone have problems sending out racks and not getting them back?
I have sent antlers to Research Mannikins in the same cardboard boxes that I have recieved from them. The thing to do is to tape spent shotgun shells on all the antler tips so that they can't poke through the box. Do that and add plenty of packing material and it will be safe.
p.s Research is not going to return them to you in a wooden crate but in a cardboard box
As for the shipper losing them, well that's just the chance you are going to have to take. That's why you insure them adequately and get a good written appraisal before you send them to cover all your bases. Gotta trust them unless you want to deliver and pick them up personally.
