I have a question about ears. The last two mounts I did I did them ears back. Well when I sew up the hide I get a big wrinkle or 2 at the top of the ear. Like right between the ears at the back of the skull. Could someone please give me some help on what is causing this? Is the skull not built up enough, no I not have the skin right, or is it supposed to be that way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin.

Sounds to me like you are not getting the ear butt muscular anatomy back properly. I would suggest a good 3D reference cast. Joe Coombes has a great one done by Galen Krier. Cary Cochrane made a good one, available from many different supply companies. If you are missing cartilaginous landmarks or specific muscles, you will have ear butt problems. Rick Carter wrote an excellent article in the last issue of Breakthrough. Without seeing the actual mount, it is rather hard to determine the problem. This is my best guess. Good Luck
Im using the Natralook earliners from McKenzie, that have the butts on them. Anyway I did order a 3d reference cast to try and help me.
I am not for sure what to tell you. I do not use those earliner. I am pretty much an Epply guy. Well, anyway, the 3D reference cast won't hurt and it will be money well spent. Good Luck finding a solution.
check your reference pics of live deer! are there wrinkles at the back of the ear butts when they are in this position? if so work the skin onto the earbutt and create the right looking wrinkles.
Like Paul said, there will be extra skin back there when the ears are back, and the skin between the eye and ear will be tight.
The opposite is true when the ears are forward. There are actually wrinkles between the eyes and ears when forward.
Now if you have a large wrinkle, then perhaps your butts are too close to each other, and too far positioned on the back of the head.
