I was wondering if I were to use a caulking on my deer what would be the best kind to use? I am thinking about using it to get into tight spots where I cant get my hands to after I start sewing up the hide. And also thought I could use it on small mammal mounts in those tough to get to areas. Thanks for any help.

There is absolutely no place on a deer where you can't get glue period. I use a "Y" cut. I slip the hide over, install the antlers, do the clay work and glue all the face right up to the mouth opening as well as around the burrs and under the chin. I invert the mount and roll the tube up. I can paint glue all the way down to the chin, skull line and do the entire neck and brisket before reinverting the hide and stapling it. I rotate the head to finish the muzzle work and I paint glue all the way to the eye orbits and neck through the mouth opening before tucking the lips. And unless my anatomy fails me, there's no other places that could possible be glued that I haven't covered.
Stay away from caulk and use the best hide paste you can afford. Your customers are paying for that anyway.
I guess you missunderstood me. I wasnt saying that I could not get the glue there it is just a tight fit. I put glue on the face after I sew the deer up. I was just wondering if there was an easier way to get the glue in there, besides on the end of a butter knife or a similar thing. But if there is not an easier way Ill just have to keep doing it the way I do. I was jus tasking about cauling, cuz it would be easier to get the end of the tube in the tight spot, ya know? Thanks, Kevin
with silicone added and have had no problems whatsoever
I use a good hide paste and the gelled consistency works great just as I explained. I could never get caulk into the places I push that brush.
Eventhough i've only done 10 deer or so, The brush is approx. 8" long which is plenty from the eyes to the neck skull union, the clauk gun is only 4 or 5 tops. I just feel better doing it that way rather than piling it up and squeazing it around.
I do it the same way George does
Whatever happened to simply brushing the glue over the ENTIRE mannikin BEFORE putting the cape on? Heck, I get 4-6 hours of work time even with the epoxies!
That is standard operating procedure for me resulting in no hard-to-reach places!
This post resulted in a giant "Huh?!" for me!
To each their own, I guess.
