i am still new to taxidermy. i mounted 45 heads last year and so far all is well with the exception of one customer calling asking to repair a split lip line on a whitetail i mounted right at a year ago. i evidentaly failed to put enough hide paste on this particular area. anyway, i have been searching the archives for a repair method for this issue to no avail so far. anyone have any suggestions please?

If what you're saying is the lip has pulled out of the lip slot...you can use sculpall to rebuild the lip. Providing the gap isn't too large. Just sculpt the area to be repaired, be sure to use a small tool to add the detail to the lip. Zap the repair area with your airbrush paint...and you should be good to go.

well the customer hasn't returned the head yet. i was just trying to get a heads up on the possible issue. truth is, i dont know if the lip has pulled out or has cracked. i asked the customer where the deer was hanging in their house, fireplace, air vent, etc..., said central heart/air but no fireplace. i informed that direct heat from an air vent could also possibly damage the mount. but anyway, do you have a suggestion if it turns out to be a "cracked lip line"?

You are jumping the gun.You haven't even seen what's wrong yet and you are looking for a fix. There may be nothing wrong. If it was a properly tanned hide,it shouldn't be cracked.Sometimes if a lip isn't properly tucked,a little of the edge of the lip skin shows, between the lips.It could be that.It may be a nick that you missed.See the head first, then seek a solution. No one can fix a problem without knowing what it is.
