Then shave it out

Why would that effect the tan when it didn't effect the deer when it was alive. I routinely find green thorns, bird shot, damned buck shot, and I've found broken off antlers, broadheads, bullet fragments and even one with a cougar tooth in it that had healed over.

Pull

I live in Texas and that is a norm. They eat pear like candy. Pull it out with pliers. Sometimes if they are stiff enough they will get hung on the fleshing wheel and pull the cape into the blade. Been there done that! AAAAAAAARRRGGGHH!

is it so hard.....

to just answer a question...Rather than try to boost your ego at someones expence!Ya know,Im fairly new at this,so i tend to have alot of questions as im sure others do.But its seems everytime someboby has a legitiment question The guy above has to try to flip the question around or give some smart remark.Ya know sometimes people should think about helping instead of try to make people look dumb!

What?

Both of the answers above are legitiment responses to your question. Some folks do things differently. I prefer to pull the thorns out with pliers and George shaves them off. Deer in this area eat prickly pear cactus like crazy and 95% of the deer I get have hundreds of the tiny cactus thorns in the lips, nose, chin and cheeks. Every so often I get one that has needles that are very ridgid and have to be pulled out. And as for George, he is very experienced and can be a great help. He wasn't trying to be a smart ass. If you prefer you can leave the cactus in the skin it will not effect the skin with some exceptions of course. Do you think I try to remove all of the tiny needles out of the chin and lips? Heck No!

Brian, let me help you out.

If your tender sensabilities are going to be damaged by the fact that you are new to taxidermy, then you need to stay out of the categories by subject matter. Thats where the veterans post. Ken set up a special category for BEGINNERS. They can ask any question in any category with impugnity because they've declared that they really aren't experienced in an area. I get accused of being the resident grouch here, but I promise you, if you ask a "beginner" question, you're safe from me and most people who'd bite you.

Next is your own smartassed remark about "egos". Taxidermy is always about egos. Your's got bruised a little when I gave you an explicit and correct answer to what you now realize was a dumbass question to begin with. So before you start throwing stones, watch out for that glass house you've just moved into.

thats exactly what im talking about

George i put it in The "DEER" category because it was a deer guestion. It has nothing to do with the "GLASS" house ive moved into.Although your years of experience are respected your smart mouth is not.People wouldnt come here and ask guestions if they really knew what was going on now would they?Thats what this whole thing is about right? Thanks for trying to help.....

Then don't listen to me.

What part of my explanation didn't you understand? The "beginner" or the "stupid question" part? You came here with a chip on your shoulder waiting for me to knock it off. You won. YOU don't get to choose what part of ME you get. And my answer to you originally certainly wasn't what it MIGHT have been. I'll make sure I don't answer any more of your questions from now on if that will make you feel better.
