I have a question for you guys who are experienced dealing with deer out in the field. I volunteer at a county forest preserve. This afternoon we observed a buck chasing does around which is normal for this time of year but he had a HUGE tumor hanging from his stomach near his haunches on the back left side of him. He had about 2 or 3 tines on either side of his antlers and was good sized. The tumor was about the size of a musk melon. Couldn't have been too comfortable. Does anyone know anything about these occurences as none of us had every seen anything quite like it. We live in Northern IL if that is helpful in any way. Thanks alot in advance!

how low was it on the belly and did it keep its shape like a hard ball sewed under the skin or did it flow like a waterballoon sewed under the skin, and was it perfectly round or slightly oval like slightly football shaped versus perfectly round?
they're was talk about something similar on here at the beginning of deer season as well. Also I wouldn't worry too much about it being too uncomfortable on him. I doubt it was painful at all basically just annoying depending on how heavy and big it was.
It looked more like a hard ball hanging in loose skin-the skin had definetely stretched out. It was weird. I was wondering if it maybe got made my an injury or just one things that can happen. The buck looked super healthy otherwise and he was sure in form too chasing the ladies around. I wonder if hunters would let a buck like that go or would they cull him? Thanks for your response.
a buck mounting a doe with an arrow sticking out of its hindquarter. The fletchings were still on it. I figured he would have tried to pull it out or at least yanked off the fletching. He was no worse for wear. He sure was hot for that doe though.
