hey never sent a deer cape out to get tanned and was wondering about the ears. Do u split them and take the cartlidge out also or do u just split and leave cartlidge in until after the tanning process

and don't turn the ears all the way to the edges. I turn mine to within 1/8" of the edge and have been fine. The "one" and the first, i turned all the way out and the saw dust busted them out at the tips. I had even been told not to turn them all the way but couldn't help myself. I wanted to see what just would happen.
I turn all my ears all the way and remove the cartlidge as it makes for a nicer ear. When you send them out about 1/2 way down from the tips put a cable tie and pull tight. That will save your ears from getting "Blown" out. I stitched up, glued up a few ears but you can't tell. Every one has their own method. Don't be afraid to try other ways sometimes just do what works best for you.
