Unusual?

I caped an old 10 point this morning and when completed I noticed his lacrymal glands weren't open at all. It was like they had "grown" shut. There was no opening in the bottom of them at all. Did I miss something along the way or does this happen? As a scent dispenser I always assumed they flowed from some kind of passage tubes. Elighten me if you will. I've skinned a lot of deer now and never experianced this. Peace. Jeff F.

was he at all rutted up? Maybe his libido was gone and his lacrimal glands were just "shriveling up" or never opened up this year?

have had several infected eye glands but never any closed ones. Some were a little freeze dried on some i get in to do euro mounts on and guys leave the heads on the back of there pickups for about two weeks and finish out deer season and finally get them to me and i just skin the head like i would any other deer, they weren't really spoiled but nothing like freezing and thawings temps on the back of a pickup to dry out the ears and eyes and such LOL
