I am doing my first deer. I dont have time to flesh the hide all at one time. So I do what I can and throw it back in freezer. Should I be putting any dry preservative or anything on it when I take it out each time. Thanks for all your help you guys and gals are great.

you need to pickle youre cape before fleshing then you can
work on it a little at a time and just put it back in youre pickle
til youre ready to work on it again just make sure you make a
fresh pickle after youre first fleshing you should be able to leave youre hide in for up to 6months i hope this was some sort of help to you
goodluck

How long does it take you to flesh a cape? put it in a bag and just leave it in the fridge so you aren't freezing and thawing it out so many times. hopefully you are planning on turning the ears and doing the face last so it doesn't dry out on you. i guess it took me a long time to do my first ones too and you don't want to be in too much of a hurry and end up putting holes all over it. are you tanning it yourself or is someone else tanning it for you? if someone else is tanning it i would ask them if you can get away with a less adequate fleshing job on the body.
It takes me about 8 hours. I am very slow and not very good at it. I am using a fleshing knife and putting lots of holes in it. I can not do it all at one time so doing a little and freezing it. Than thaw when I get some time. How long can I leave it in refrig without it getting spoiled. And I send it out for tanning. Please send me any info on how to do it faster without so many holes.Kim
the hide in fresh water for 1-3 or more hours in fresh clear water. The soaking helps loosen and break up the tight film which can be tooken off a whole lot easier and faster.
