Nose color ?

I realize nose color varies but I tried something different (for me anyway) and I think I found what I'm looking for. Paynes Gray with a little Confederate Gray. It matches the live deer photos I have and I think it really looks good. Have any of you tried this, and what did you think of it? Thanks!

Nose color?

For years all the deer that came out of the shop had black noses.
I too have found that paynes gray as a base color looks great! I now paint the nose with paynes gray and top the nose off with 50/50 black and paynes grey sprayed at a very sharp angle. This does a great job of showing the lighter grey in the low spots of the nose. Looks great! Joe

Paines gray has more blue than I care for. Call WASCO and ask for #34. You might be surprised at what you see! You can thank me later!

#34's The BEST

I use it for all ungulate noses, with some minor variations. I put it over a base of mars red, dusty pink or flesh, or some combination of those three. #34 is called Yox Nose Pad Gray, it's a color I always tried to mix myself, but never quite got exactly what I wanted. Strangely enough, Bill's nose isn't anywhere close to that color!

Here's a tip, if you don't want to follow Bill's advise....throw your black away and mix any dark brown and any blue anytime you think you need a Black color. It'll give you a better Black than anything you can buy! My art teacher called it "soft black" and it really is! Lighten it with dusty pink and you will have something "close" to #34.

thanks to the old fart and Bill Yox. I have been looking to get the Axis Deer nose color correct for several tries with little to no success. I have been getting way too much blue look and I hate it. I damn sure don't want to go the easy way out and paint it black. It just ain't natural! LOL! Happy Turkey Day Everyone!
