Do most people charge for a simple fix such as glueing on a broken brow tine?(glueing on not rebuilding)or do you chauk it up as good buisness practice to draw that customer back, also what is the going rate for staining/refinnishing a set of antlers. Thanks pjk

I charge "most" people for that type of repair. Matter of fact I charge $25.00 per repaired point weather it's a glue on or rebuild.

If the guy bringing in the broken tine mount was already a customer and had patronized my business faithfully I'd do a simple in and out job like that for free. That little good gesture will go miles. He will remember and he will spread good word of your beyond the call goodness. That, I believe, in the long run will make you more money than the few bucks you charge him for the minor repair. When does a small insignificant job become a job that you need to charge for? You have to draw your own line in the sand for that one.

I will deffenetly agree with you.

Hogger you Nailed it on the head in my book. There still are a few nice folk out there.

A small insignificant job?

Jobs like fixing antlers that are shot off, or staining tines you rebuilt are the most time consuming and you should charge plenty. Charge by the hour + supplies or so much and inch. If I want to donate my free time I would rather spend if with my family or be outdoors. Why are us taxidermists any different than say your local body shop. Last time my vehicle was fixed, and I went back to get a scratch fixed they certaintly didn't throw in a free bee.

The last time I had my vehicle fixed I too had a huge scratch on the rear quarter panel, no where near the damaged area. I asked how much extra it would cost to have it fixed and he offered to fix it at no additional charge. He did a great job on the front of the car, and the scratch on the back is gone and he has earned a customer for life. (Hopefully not too many times) I apply the same principles to my Taxidermy business and hope to earn repeat customers as well. 5 minutes glueing on a broken tine is well worth having a customer for years and years. Take each job on a case by case basis and use your own judgement.
