Just took in a nice 8pt. rack in full velvet. Deer was shot friday, so I believe this is pretty unique for November in southern Indiana. None of the other taxidermists around wanted to mount the deer. I read up on it in here and told the guy I would do it. The antlers are hard and the velvet is pretty much perfect. I have the rack in the freezer right now and am getting ready to order some "antler in velvet" preservative. Can't wait to get it done and get some pictures taken. Wish me luck...

Just remember its pretty late in the season and the velvet should have been in its last stages, trying to preserve it might not be a realistic approach, if your looking to really have it last. Velvet is a touchy item anyways, you may want to look at having artifical velvet applied for a lasting mount. I may be way off base on this but i dont think so, Im sure others will step up and to tell you the troth ive only delt with 7 or 8 velvet mounts so im no expert in this but take some pictures at differant angles just incase, for referance. Good luck sounds like a nice deer.
