I was lucky enough to a bring down a beatiful white tail which I want to have done in a shoulder mount. But due to personal finances not allowing for it right now, I'm looking for maybe a way to save it and to have it done in a year or so, The Tax's men I talked to won't carry me because I was honest with them in telling them I know that I wouldn't have the money in time to pay them for their work. (I don't blame them) I need to find out what to do and how to do it to save the deer and not let it get ruined if there is a way before I can afford to have it mounted. I would greatly appreciate any help and thank you for all your time and effort

Get it in the freezer asap. If you know how to skin out the head do that and tuck the face and ears inside the neck, roll it up and put it in a plastic bag and it will be good for a couple years. If not, then pull the cape over the face to help protect it from freezer burn, place in a large plastic bag and it should hold till you get it to the taxidermist. He/she may not be too happy about it being left in the freezer so long though.
see if he or she will cape it out for you and what they charge then freeze it double bagged with as little air in it as possible Or see what they will charge you to cape, turn, split, and salt and then if you will be useing that Taxidermist to mount it for you when you can afford it see how they would prefer you to store it. Good luck
