I have had a hard time with these moth/weaffle type bugs eating my feathers and fur on mounts that I have. Anyone ever have this problem and what did you do to stop it. They are litteraly eating up my mounts slowly over time. I find big hunks of hair on the floor all over, only to find the dead bodies of the bugs entagled in the left overs.

Ive heard there about impossible to get rid of. I think there some compant that will come in and clean up, but i dont know if they will be able to save your mounts.
There was an article in issue 80 of Breakthrough on page 99 about infestation. You will have to fumigate the house and also can place mounts in plastic bags and spray with bug spray over a course of several weeks. It said the bug spray should have pyrethrin in it, but they were discussing beetles. Dont' know if it applies to moths. I would think it would.
they made it sound like it is very difficult to get rid of all the bugs in the house because they can hide well.
You need to buy some pheromone ( sex )traps to catch the males during the warmer months . Look on the web for insect traps . I have these all over and they fill up by the end of the year . These bugs will also eat any grain food products in your house so keep some in the kitchen . If you have room in your freezer , start putting as many as you can in there for about a week until you get them all done . Then repeat and do all over again incase any eggs hatch out . Nows a good time if your in a cold area because the moths are hibernating . The bug bombs dont work . Rick
Yep, its about the same if you go into the pet department at stores like Walmarts.. you will see this tiny light brown moths flying around. I am guessing they are either in the bagged pet food or maybe fom soe ofthe bird seed mixes. Check out the kitchen like newbirdman said... My neighbor was gone for about a month & when she came home a7 opened her cupboard about 20 flew out. She had to dump all cereal, crackers & flours. Then she fumicagted house with those small orange Raid bombs. So far so good. Its been 6 weeks.
You ar so right . I think that were my bugs came from , Walmart . I think the bugs are in the dry dog food . These moths fly at night so if you turn on the lights , thats when you usually see them . I also hang a lot of those sticky fly trap strips in my basement and you should see how many moths and other insects you catch along with the sex traps . Rick
I learned this from a museum taxidermist. Place some kind of a night lite in you infested area. Hang from ceiling if possible. Then get you some fly paper stips from the hardware store and hang 1 or 2 about 6" from the lite hanging down. Within a few days, You will be amazed at the bugs/ bettles you catch, I have now made it a common practice to leave a night lite on with the strips hanging all the time in my stidio just for added insurance as my studio sets about 100 yards away from a Farmway COOP elevator.
This won't stop the damage done but will help in the future. Keep your mounts sprayed/treated with "millers trophy spray" Also, Knolblocks "Mount care" products can help keep them away.
