Pennsylvania deer mannequin

Submitted by Joe V. on 12/1/05 at 10:53 AM. ( ) 216.203.7.84

Hi all,

I am looking for a mannequin that is best suited for Pennsylvania deer. I hate to dramatically alter forms but PA deer have skinny little necks with big heads most of the time. I need something around 7" X 14" X 16". I remember seeing a post about who makes the best form for PA deer but I can't find it for the life of me. Any help would be appreciated.

Good Hunting
Joe V.

Your deer are no different from New Jersey deer or Virginia deer. It's perception. If you'd drop back that 7 inch measurement a quarter of an inch, you'd find dozens of mannikins that will "fit" your deer. Deer skin is very elastic and will do amazing things whent he taxidermists removes the mindset that got him to wondering in the first place.

There is a supply co. selling Pa. deer forms but I don't remember who they are. I did try one last year and it didn't fit any better than any other ones I tried. Yes George here in Pa we have ugly deer with big heads and long noses and skinny necks. I do agree that they will fit many forms if you lose an 1/4" on your N/E and I think they do look better on them.

Thank you Both!

I thank you for the advice! I guess an altering I will go. LOL Probable better that I learn to alter than not have the skill to do it in the long run anyway.

Thanks

Been using them for years. Measured correctly, you will find fits...I measure the neck meat with skin removed.

Gotta agree with G. on this one...

i do my share of pa. deer, i find they are no different then ill. deer ny. deer wy. deer sd. deer or any deer. certainly there are exceptions as there are anywhere. the big difference is in the mentality of the pa. hunters and the age class of the deer they are willing to shoot. a 5 1/2 yr old deer in pa. is very typical of a 5 1/2 yr. old nebraska deer as to most of the measurements and how it fits up on a form. yes there may not be alot of options in buck forms with 14 in. necks, its simply a supply and demand thing.

Me either Paul, everyone wants to be "unique"

Like a lot of other bullsh1t that has survived in this industry, that "my state's deer are different" is always at the top of the list.

He always said in his seminars that his forms were designed to fit the Virginia deer. But then again, all the deer on the East coast tend to be Virginia deer.

Yes the Dan Bantley forms were sculpted for PA deer. Been using them for years. They fit the south jersey deer good also
There are nice for older forms also.
