What do taxidermists generally give a hunter for their deer cape? I am well aware that size and quality come into play here, but so far no one has wanted money from me. I have a customer who has two for me and he would just like credit for the next time he does want a mount. One 180 lb and one 230. (the 230 was already caped out) I just want to be fair. Thanks for any serious input on this.

I generally give $25 if I need it. If I don't need it I will give $10 to $15 depending on quality. If it is an exceptional cape I will give more
Cathy, you're State laws may not let the selling or buying of State game or parts there of by or to the public. You may not be able to give them money, only credit. It depends on you're state laws. The capes do have value if you want to credit towards a mount or antler mount. Size and quality normally is not noticed by a hunter and deer all look the same to them. So make it easy on you're self and give them a flat rate value for a cape. $20-$25 would be fair. The value of the cape goes up when you cape the face and process it to leather. On the deer, it has little value to the hunter. So do not give them a finished value price trade.
I give them 50% credit on antler mounts. or about 25 bucks.
seems I was on the right track. I was thinking 40-50 credit for these two.
