Mount one. I have not all that long ago gone through this Jerry. Do you want to raise the quality level in your area or do you want to be just another taxidermist down the street? You will need to decide what your prices need to be by deciding what you can offer. You need to base them off of your cost to operate as well as the amount you would like to be paid per hour. I just set mine this year at a price of 325.00 so I could reach my goal as to the amount of work i WANTED TO TAKE IN. Then I stopped taking in anymore. Over the next couple of years I will do the same. Then when I decide the level of quality I can offer I am going to set a max # of mounts I want to work on. Be it 10,20 or 30 and set my prices accordingly to what ever I want to, not what someone tells me the guy down the road charges, which is what you are asking. Right now I have got it to 115.00 and some change per shoulder mount. That varies some with the size or style of form I use, and will go up with the more I attempt to put in a deer.
As far as deposits I take in enough to cover my supplies, but ask for 50%.
Frank Kotula? Sorry Frank if that's wrong and Dan Hudzik has answered this question before even for me or a similar one. Just check the archives to the left and you should find what you are looking for. Good luck Joey A
Jerry,I ask for 50% upfront, that way I don't get stuck for any of the cost of supplies, customers don't have a problem with it either.
We always get 50% of the asking price. That way you have your cost covered. If they don't have the money for a deposit they probally wont have it to pick the mount up when you are finished. Good Luck!
