i have a button buck that i am going to mount. the question that i have is the form that i want to use has the cut out for a skull cap.
how do i go about doing this? i thought about building up the back of the head with mache and then building up the buttons. will this work?

I take it you do not have the skull cap from the button Buck. If so Just screw it in place. if not you can as you said build it up. last one I did I used Bondo to build it up. Its stronger, than mache. and can be sanded to perfection
I used the skull cap just as you would on an antlered deer, then built it up with critter clay. critter clay is all that i use for filling on deer heads.
