What is the proper procedure for Deer and Squirrel Tails? I mean how do you preserve them? Do you cut some of the butt end of the bony Tail out or leave in... and do you immeditaely ut them in the Freezer, or wait until they stiffen up a bit. Lke leaving outside in the cold weather (shed)... Thanks. I just sold a Tail, but plan on keeping as many as I come across next year. So wanna do the procedure's right. Roger

the tail bone out. I then cut a small hole in the end and pull a piece of cotton cloth or string thru, leaving it in the tail in tanning or you can DP. I then freeze a piece of clay that rolled to a pencil shape. Slide the frozen clay into the tail. When the clay thaws shape the tail by moving the clay around, then insert a piece of wire let it dry in the shape you want.
