Wanting to go to competitions..

Friends, I am in my first year of business and I want to take some of my deer to a competition to gain the expertese and critisism from the judges. After reading in the archives I can tell that the judges comments about your mounts are a good learning tool. My question is how do I go about finding where competitions are held. I am in Dallas Texas and I do belong to my state taxidermy association, but are there any other competitions out there that are not associated with the associations. The Texas State Taxidermy Association only has one competition a year. I would like to go to more than that. Any information on this is appreciated. Thanks for you help, Waylan

Waylan, ever been on this site before?

If you have, "look up" literally. In the top margin there are two lines of information typed in blue letters. Go down to the second line, move over to the fourth entry, and click on that "Conventions" hyperlink. You'll be amazed at what you can find at the touch of a key on this site if you just let it work for you.

Look on...

Thanks for the info, but are all competitions only thru the taxidermist associations?

reciprocal agreement

I think Louisiana has a reciprocal agreement with Texas where members from one association may attend the other without joining it as long as they are current members of the other state. I am sure that somke other states also do this. Good Luck

Waylan, now wait a second. Do you want to play?

Then you have to pay. Competitions that are "free" still have to be paid for by SOMEONE. Maybe instead of expecting to walk in, drop your mount off, and then retrieve it afterwards, you might want to volunteer your time and become involved. You'll quickly see that such affairs are backbreaking, thankless (seems you're leaning that way) and frustrating affairs dealing with enough egos to fill the Titanic. Many states DO have reciprocal agreements, but you're still expected to pay entry and registration fees at the least. For NTA affiliated states who transfer your points to the data bank, there's still more work to be done while you're trying to bask in your glory. So, save yourself some agony form people like me and don't start whining about how expensive competing can be.
