tanning deer hooves again

OK I know this subjest was just in here but my question is different. I have some deer hooves to do. I am just starting taxidermy and havent done deer hooves for customers yet. Ive done some for myself by soaking them in borax water for 2 weeks. I dont wanna do these this way cuz people have told me its not good. So my question. What do I do about skinning them when I get down to the hoof part? And can I tan them using krowtann and how much krowtann should I use for these? I have 8 to do. Thanks for any help you can give me. Kevin

What's with the TWO WEEKS IN BORAX WATER. Where did that come from. Skin them, dust them off, and mount them..bada bing, bada bang, bada boom. How simple can that be? When you get to the hoof, you remove it along with the skin. Did you check the archives? NOPE, NEVER DID did you. I explain using curved bladed vineyard shears, how to use them, where to buy them. And Krotann ain't gonna save you from doing dumb things.

What should I type in to find it in the archives. And I did the borax water from an old taxidermy book my uncle had. I did this about 8 years ago and the feet still hang on my wall, it worked for me. I did not want to do it this way though, because I know now that it is wrong. What do you mean by dust them off, with borax I am guessing? And I just wanted some help with the krotann to know how much of a batch to make. Thanks, again, Kevin

And what's "wrong" with a method that's worked? I've tanned a few just for shytzand giggles, but most of them get the DP. Where they gonna go? How they gonna drum? Some people freeze dry them, so DP has to be an improvement over that.

Thanks Goerge
