I have a question about the McKenzie Wall Pedastal Form. I have a doe a customer wants mounted on one. I would like to know about attaching the skin on the part of the form with NO wood backing. Do I just staple it like any other form, or do I need to do something different?

I use suede on that part of the form. Just cut the hide even with the edge. Then glue suede to the backside and trim it with a thin piece of the "rope" type trim. You can get the trim in Wal-mart in the fabric dept. BP
So you don't actually wrap the skin around the back of the form? Still how do you attach the skin to the form?
Your hide paste will hold it. I just mounted one, and I just pinned it along the sides to hold it from moving or lifting. Then glued black felt to the back. This one I mounted on a fence post with broomsage grass. I really like the way it turned out. Good luck
We go inside the edge about 1/2" and grind a groove with a dremel
just like you do around the mouth. Squirt some good glue in the crack
and tuck the hide in just like you do the lips.We shave the hair off
and just tuck the hide. After you are done tucking push some t-pins
around the groove to help hold the hide in. Works great, never had
a problem. Good luck
I usually just glue the edge with a good hide paste like Epo-Grip and then carefully cut the extra skin away with a scalpel from the skin side, this will leave a little extra hair to hang over the edge, and an easy way to finish the back is to tape off the edges and spray with FleckStone which will give a stone type finish.
I just glue it down and pin it around the edge til the glue dries. I use Buckeye Supreme Hide Paste, holds just fine. BP
I also use Buckeye and pin the excess hide, allow it to partially dry, then trim flush with the edge of the foam. Then just to be safe, I go all around the edge with supergle. When I finish the mount, I apply black felt with a spray on adhesive and trim the edge with black rope.
