I had a good talk last night with a wildlife supervisor in my district. he answered all my questions about buying and selling deer in ohio. he also mentioned in his words "that there is no test to do taxidermy as of yet" i was just wondering if anyone else has heard if we are going to need a license in the near furture? i hope so

P.T. Barnum is correct again. There's one born every minute.

I love posts like this from people who're infatuated with themselves and their "me better than you" attitude. I don't have any trouble with taxidermists being required to have a BUSINESS license, but when it comes to that "testing", I wonder why natural selection hasn't worked yet. They should make some people take a test before allowing them to pump their own gas. MR, that might fit well into your job description.

Thank You George

You Saved Me the trouble.
MR. you made some incorrect assumptions. Currently the ODNR is considering Placing a bill before state legislature requiring licensing of taxidermists. But that is just a consideration at this point. However such a bill would have to pass first. That bill at this time says, Nothing About testing. You simply assumed that testing was a part of the licensing process. When you talked with The DNR representative did he leave you with wild animal reports, and the possession laws that usually accompany them? Keep those. because they spell out the requirements in black and white. I have in the past had many Conservation Officers tell me many different things. a lot of which were wrong.

no testing

I just met with the distict 1 wildlife officer and I asked him about a test and he said that it was never even thought of. tenbears was right about them trying to pass a bill to make us pay for a license. That isnt a bad idea if the money is used for more conservation and not to make someone else rich. Its either pay for a taxidermy license or they raise the price of hunting and fishing licenses again.

Why would you want to pay the DNR for a license? WE will gain nothing from a license. It will do nothing but put money in the pocket of our state government. To operate a business we have to have a business license, and a tax id number. Why in heavens name do we need mors expenses? A license will do nothing to stop the fly by night guys. Heck they do not buy business licenses. Or pay taxes. No matter what they say. The ODNR is in NO funding crisis. look at their hunting license revenue 20.00 for a license, 24.00 for a deer stamp, 3 per hunter. 15.00 for an urban permit. 24.00 for a turkey 2 per hunter. if you partake in the sport to the maximum. You will have spent 155.00 Plus you could buy 4 more urban tags. That's for a resident. I hunt a state whereas a non resident I get 6 deer tags, 3 turkey tags, and a bear tag. On the small game license I can take fox, Bobcat (12) squirrel, and upland birds. All for 140.00. we do not need the government in our business any more than they are now.
All this will become is a way for the state to put their hands deeper into our pockets. Once the bill gets passed. they will be able to raise the fee at will.
