im no chemist so i have a question. in reading some post in the past few days i have seen that dp has borax as its main ingredent. i use dp on my deer hides and borax on small animals. is there a reason why one shouldnt use just borax on deer hides. never even thought of doing it that way till now. pros? cons? just curious. thanks in advance

.....Did you come up with Borax as the main ingrediant of DP? The main ingrediant of MOST DP's is TALC. Some don't even include borax as an ingrediant.
i read it on a post tonight titled squirrel hide? the response by r lee said the main ingredient in dp was borax. like i said i dont know so i figured i would ask. never hurts to know something you didnt before. thanks again

Its borax, its an astringent, its a drying material, etc. Think about it...you arent even CURING the skin, no less stabilizing it. Are you willing to take that chance, and to tell your customers you are? Well, if you can truly answer YES to those questions, by all means, use it on deer. I wouldnt...
i wasnt planning on using the borax for deer mounts unless you wonderful people here had said you had done it and it had worked great. even then i would have only done it on one of mine to see for sure. see i posted the question because i didnt know. thats what this forum is for. now i know. thanks
