Antler Stain

I have a set of antlers that were hanging outside for a few years. What kind of stain can I use to color them? Thanks a lot. Don.

wood stain will do the job. Dark Walnut is my preference. Potassium Permanganate also works great. But it is a strong stain, that will even stain glass.

Acrylic paint and alcohol

thin down airbrush paint with isopropyl alcohol, start light gradually getting darker. Mix white with yellow and brown, to achieve the color you like. If you mess up, it is easy to clean off and start over. You can apply it with a brush and when done seal with Krylon Matte.

Lord, why me?

Don, you know if you'd just followed the prompts and typed your question on the front page of this site, OR clicked the orange SEARCH button this is what you'd have found:

Staining WEATHERED Antlers
33 posts

Staining BLEACHED Antlers
123 posts

Staining OLD Antlers
164 posts

Or you could have made it very simple and just typed in
STAINING ANTLERS
448 posts

Wanna bet your two responses here haven't been covered a dozen or so times already?

First Don, I am not sure if you subscribe to Taxidermy Today, but this months issue has a great article on redoing old antlers by Erich Carter. A lot of good info there. As for you George for as long as it took you to write all that you did, you could have answered his question and not have been a DICK! But I guess that is expected of you. Well good luck Don.

Todd, maybe you missed the meaning of what a "dick" is

This response submitted by George on 1/29/06 at 3:40 PM. ( ) 64.12.116.6

YOU would be a good start. This site is totally funded by one company FREE to jerkoffs like YOU. It is monitored by one man who has almost made it idiot proof except for people like YOU. There is an archival system established that answers every basic question any beginning taxidermist might want answered, yet dicks like YOU persist in adding more extraneous BS to it. I COULD have done a lot of things including staining them myself, but if Don intends on becoming self-reliant, he'd better plan on starting as soon as he walks through the door. Snot noses like you have NO effect on me or trying to make people like YOU understand that this FREE site is a great learning tool if YOU'd just learn to use it.

I really dont understand why you think you are the GOD on this site! Your sh** dont stink type attitude is getting old quick. Trust me whatever you say I am not going to lose sleep over. Say whatever you want George this is a free site but you are still a DICK!

But mine's bigger than yours

All you have to do is learn to play well with others and follow directions and you'd never know I was here. Of course I understand you're still in training pants so you'll just have to endure won't you?

Just a note for you to dream about Todd. I was here before you got here and likely be here long after you're gone. If I'm not, there's enough others who feel just as I do about YOU and your type to continue I'm sure.

thanks

Just wanted to say I'm proud of you, Todd, after all- this is a website for us to learn from.

Often times, when searching for an answer, you don't always find the information, so it is necessary to post a new question. The term "forum" means "a public meeting place for open discussion."

So, George, your sarcasm when responding to others' posts is totally uncalled for- no matter how basic the questions are.
