I Use Critter Clay

This response submitted by Nancy on 1/29/06 at 4:07 PM. ( icehouse.icehouse@verizon.net ) 70.20.184.235

I am sorry I don't use bondo as I am very happy with the critter clay. I remove the cartlidge then wipe them down with a little acetone to remove grease. I ruff up the ear liners with a stout ruffer and wipe them down with a little acetone then smear ear adhesive on both and slide the liner in the ear. Works great! Wish I could help on the bondo thing

Put laqure thinner on the ears and wipe off all moisture. This will take care of drumming!

Bondo

leave the cartlidge on, rough it up with stout rougher and wipe down with acetone. just make sure you get enough down by the base and work it in good and make sure all of the inner ear is up against the bondo. Good Luck, hope this helps.

To make it clear

I claen the ears with acetone as described, I cut the cartilage on the inside of the ear in a checker board pattern, careful not to cut through the skin. This keeps the cartilage from pulling as one strong unit causing drumming. I mix about 60% bondo to 40% resin and add fiberglass chop. The bondo hardener will harden it all and you dont need the resin catalyst. Shove that stuff up the ear and press it around to shape your ear. If you get an air bubble at the tip of the ear simply poke a hole in the skin with a needle. Any bondo that gets on the hair can be wire brushed out as the bondo starts to harden but before it hardens all the way. Also trim the excess bondo at the base of the ear before it hardens up too much. Use critter clay as your ear base. You can seperate the skin in the ear from the bondo with your lip tucker or similar tool to get the union of the clay and bondo right.

I was wondering if you can freeze ears that have already been done with bondo. I sure hope you can cuz I have one in the freezer now, just wondering if anyone knows if it hurts it or not, responses apprecieated

Yes

Yes you can freeze after bonded ears. I recently tanned a hide with Mckenize Tan then bondo the ears just before mounting. Had a 911 and put the wt hide back in the freezer and mount one week later. Turned out great.

Good luck

What about Ear Magic?

This response submitted by Nina Lukaszewicz on 1/30/06 at 4:41 PM. ( 1224@earthlink.net ) 4.249.219.204

Will it hurt if I put a cape that has had the ears done with Ear Magic, into my freezer for mounting later?

Good deal

Thanks for the post Cole, I didn't know and was kinda worried about it, but glad someone else did it and it turned out ok.
