Axis antlers in velvet

I just killed a large axis buck that is in velvet. Is there a way to preserve the horns so the velvet does not fall off years down the road?

Thunder Bay Taxidermy does a great job on freeze drying.

I use "Antler in Velvet" sold in most supply books.

Poke the tips of each point with a fat needle a few times and inject the A in V in the three vains at the base running up the length of the horn until you see the blood run out and turn clear. Then rub the same solution over the outside of the antler and let cure. If the horn has hardened up considerably injecting will be out of the question. In this case you just need to coat the surface of the antler and let cure. In the mean time remember that velvet antlers are a perishable item and thus should be kept in cold storage until you can get this done.
