tanned hides

I have a question regarding mounting a tanned hide. When i first started doing taxidermy i always washed my hides after getting them back from the tannery, just prior to mounting them. a local taxidermist told me that it was not necessary. i've mounted them without ever since. these hides have some sawdust shavings, or at least that's what they appear to be, on the inside of them but the outsides appear to be clean. after the mounts are finished i don't see any difference. just wanted to ask for advice on whether this was ok or not. the hides are wet tanned and moist enough to mount without adding any water to them. thanks in advance.

That's one reason why I don't send them out. You get all the sawdust in the ears and the fur. So you have to wash them any way si I rather do it at home with no saw dust in the ear and having total control over what I do.
