Bill, You can rehydrate the cape in salt water, 1 pound salt per 1 gal water, if the skin has dried a lot. I would place the bucket in a refrigerator and check the cape each day. Once rehydrated, salt and prep to tan as usual. Very dry capes may take a few days in the salt water but some will go pretty fast. Enjoy, Aaron H.
Add ultra soft by Rittles to The soak. It will speed up the rehydration. Randall

It is really hard to screw-up STOP-ROT, but it CAN be done if somebody wanted to work at it. This message board has been loaded up with slip problems over the past number of weeks, and I sit here and read them knowing full well what they have done to induce the situation themselves. The high percentage of the time the problem is from following poor advice.
STOP-ROT........FIRST......salt use is after the fact.
NO OTHER CHEMICALS.....other than water until the STOP-ROT has donw it's job.
It is just as simple as it reads.

Thanks for all the info and waiting to get my order from you Glen.
I'll let you know how it turns out as this cape is really bad.

and it works great. I had freezer burn on the ears and in some places on the cape. It brought back most of the natural color and made cleaning up the cape and getting excess meat off easier. I have yet to see the results after tanning. I salted it and will pickle and tan when I get a chance. Thanks to Glen for stop rot!
