I am new to the Taxidermy game and about to attempt my first deer mount.I plan on Epo-glue and am just curious as to how long it takes for the mount to be completely set?I know that I will need to check it alot during this process and work detailed areas, but for how long?

I let my mounts dry for 3 weeks. The detail work is done in the first week.

Why would you do your detail work, then let it dry ?

Depends

On heat and humidity. It can take a week to two weeks to totally dry. But the face detail can set up with-in two days if your hide is thinned out properlly.
To slow the process down, take a 55 gallon bag and place this over the mount. You can tie it off. Now as you work in your shop daily, nightly, whatever, take the bag off redo the the detail work and leave the bag off for an hour or even less if you want an even slower drying time. The face will be the first to sry so when that's done you can bag it for less time. Also keep an eye for the arm pits. They also like to drum if your hide is a bit tight.
