I saw this in the WASCO catalog and I was wondering if anybody has used it. I have been using Sallie Dahmes Hide Paste but it dries to slow and drums a little Im wanting change hide paste but I need more than 4-5 hours to work with the skin like most of the other say. The killer glue says it dries in 48 hours I was wondering if anybody else had tried it and what your thoughts are on it. Oh yeah almost forgot it comes in pints so how many deer shoulder mounts will a pint do.

I've used Killer Glue for quite a while but recently switched. Killer glue is excellent at holding skin tight to the mannikin and preventing drumming. You get plenty of work time with it. But it is messy to clean up and it will start to pack and gum up at the bottom of the container in a short amount of storage time, making it hard to scoop out. It can be thinned with laquer thinner. It might be a bit costly to use exclusively on all of your head mounts so I'd recommend using it for detail areas like the face only. I've never tried Epo-Grip, but that seems to be the popular stuff amungst folks here and I don't doubt that it's great. But it is most costly. Guess you get what you pay for. I now use Buckeye Supreme hidepaste. It's easy to spread, easy to clean up with water and affordable. It was recommended to me by a veteran that has tried everything and decided on it. I even use it on facial areas and all. I'd say a two pint kit of Killer Glue will cover maybe 4 deer mounts.
Hogger if you never tried it why are you knocking it down by saying it can't be that great. I was one of the first to try this product when it was ready to be marketed. I wouldn't try it in th etrial stages at at.
When Steve approached me about Epo-Grips water base adhesive, I explained to him at that time that if it wasn't better than Buckeye's Supreme that it would be a waste of my time. Well he did and it was better. But wait there's more, you say cost? You'll get more from a gallon than you do with Buckeye. Why? All you need is a thin coat for it to work. Not heavy but thin. All you need is one of those tile trowels and spread it on. You'll find you'll get 10 or more deer than you would with Buckeye's.
Now I'm not knocking Buckeye Supreme down at all. It's still one of the best hide pastes out there and nothing wrong with it.
But as Hogger said it is a pain to use. I now use Epo-Grip on the face and areas I want detail to show and Buckeye Supreme on the other areas. Again, try different things, you may like something better.
He only said it was costlier and you get what you pay for. Fortunately, I was a testor for the hide paste and when Steve first showed me the final run of it in Lubbock, TX, RIGHT BEFORE I WAS TO DO A SEMINAR ON MOUNTING DEER WITH IT, I was in shock. I thought, how could he do this to me. We've been testing glue for a year and I thought we had all the bugs out and I show up for a seminar and he's gonna tell me I'm not going to use what I'd been working with.
Well, I, too, was amazed and it really WAS better that what I'd used before. It's really great stuff.
BTW Hogger, that was a great post you put on the political postings. I still blame Cecil Baird for starting that crap on here to begin with.
i started with the waterbase and was a little wary of the drying time
on the epoxy
well
after i finally tried it on the whole deer im hooked
i was wary for no good reason
had plenty of time to do the whole mount
just mixed in a couple of batches and spread thin on a paper plate
i actually found it stayed more plyable(is that a good word?)for longer
also i bagged the head overnite and had no trougle the next day making a few minor adjustments
im using it on the whole mount now and after the second day and everything is set , i bet its cheaper in the long run
nothing moves or pulls
mouth stays tucked , eyes dont move
no extra time on seams anymore
time is money and epo epoxy i figure is worth the trade

Thanks for making the correction for me with Frank. I'm sure he just misread what I wrote. I do intend on giving Epo-Grip a try out myself some day. And, you are right, Cecil started the baloney, but seems PBS let it get to him a bit too much and now he's on a war path.. and Cecil's nowhere to be found LOL!
