modge podge method for deer septum

I understand the method of filling the deer nostril with bondo, and then coating the cast with modge podge to make a flexible type septum...i think most people carve the form out to the proper shape and then install the modge podge liner.....my question is, could you lay the liner inside a reproduction nose piece....this way the nostril wings, opening, and the little funnel like gland on the back side of the nostril would all be correctly shaped, and you would have a very realistic septum with the correct texture. How is the liner attached...super glue? What transitions from the form to the modge podge liner...all game? Is the form painted first before installing the liner so that incase the liner is translucent you will not be able to see thru to the form. Thanks.

I use nail acrylic

You have to make a mold from a real deer then cast it with nail acrylic. I use the pink powder with just a bit of french white so it comes out semi opaque. Cut the nose off the form and drill it out to fit your cast septum, then glue the nose back on. All Game works for the transition. Hope this helps.

what do you use to make the mold that you cast the nail acrylic into? do you actually cut the septum out of the deer to make your mold? thanks.

Do you guys mind if I ask a question?

Is there some reason that much extra work effort and supplies equates to production times and quality already available though commercial suppliers? Unless it's Challenge of the Art" competition, why isn't the run of the mill, commercial septum or even the artificial nose replacement most cost efficient?

George....are they as good?

Goerge, are the available products as good...as far as competition is concerned? If so, then I agree, I would be wasting my time to do all this. I was just under the impression that competition would required a little more. Thanks.

For a comp. mount would you suggest simply using a repro. nose? Who do you feel offers the best one? Thanks.

I don't compete, but I know most who do use them

The cast noses have a much smoother inner detail than most of us can recreate. Richard Christoforo is the ONLY judge I've ever heard of who dinged someone for the artificial nose being out of symmetry by 1/8 inch. And then he had the guts to judge two pigs in our comp. Mine had a real nose and the other had an artificial. We both "blued" on them, but the other guy got extra credit for USING an artificial nose. He's still on my shyt list for that one and he's MY FRIEND. LOL.
