Either switch to lacquer or use a GOOD fungicidal sealer first.
i'm new to airbrushing, what should i do now that i have already painted the ears?
Clean it all off and start over
with laquer thinner and let dry. Water base paint WILL work on wt ears. I have several in the showroom some are 10 years plus, looks like they were finished yesterday. Can't stress enough the ears must be clean and free of any residue.
I use hydromist. Use a brass wire brush and brush them out real good, I dont have any trouble with it.
Don't bump them or think about brushing them. The paint will flake off. That is if the hide has been TANNED. If you DP it and remove all the body oils, you may get by. Really, lacquer paint is the only answer to cure the problem. Lacquer, unlike water based paints that form drops on the hair, covers the hair but once the skin is dry, brush off very easily with a soft bristle brush.
George,
I use hrdro mist paints on all my deer finish work. I've never had a problem. Of course, I've never used it to paint flesh, I just paint the ears, eyes and nose, which is skin, not flesh.
But I know and YOU KNOW that water based paint will bead up on ear hair if you aren't careful and when you try to brush it off without using a good sealer, you pull hair and scratch paint. Lacquer doesn't do that.
BTW, I was using "FLESH" as an opposite to "HAIR" in the sense of "flesh and blood".
