Deer with shed antler

I'm wanting to do a mount where the deer has shed one antler and is sniffing at it on the ground. Problem is the antlers are still together. How can I "shed" one of the antlers and what does it look like where it has shed? Has anyone seen any pics like this real close?

but these were sheds and I did one in the scene and had one on the deer. What you could do is cut off the side you want "shed", but when you cut it make sure you cut it just below the burr line. After cutting it, mount the deer and leave hair line up where it should be like the antler just dropped. When mount is dry rebuild inside the pedicle to look like a shed drop. The same goes for the antler that has been shed, rebuild the end of it with apoxie sculpt and blend in color on the shed and the pedicle. You will have to get some good reference for this. I have a friend in the deer business and have been able to see first hand the different colors within the pedicle. Some were a purplish blue right after the drop and some were more of an off white with a little dried blood within. The sooner the drop the more color there is. Good luck and enjoy.

Don't know about making one shed. You could mold the end of a shed antler.Saw off the antler you wish to be shed.Apply apoxie scuplt to both sides of the cut.Press mold into apoxie on each side.Stain to correct color. Good luck.

thanks

Yeah I didn't think about bebuilding with apoxy. Now I just need to find some ref pics with a close-up of where it has shed. Like Matt said there are alot of colors there when the deer firts sheds and that is what this mount is going to symbolize. I'm sure it'll be fun.
