Is there much a difference? I'm using a ear forward medium alert insert and have the ears positioned back. I really like how it looks and I'm thinking about taking this to competion. The rack on this deer is a 164" and with the ears back it looks like Godzilla. Would this be something the judges will pick out right away? This is my first ears back mount.

If it the ear forward with butts, I think it would look funny if yo utry to possition them back. The ear without the butte should be used and you can possition the way you like making the ear butts in the correct allinment and shape. And yes, the judges will pick up on it.
