CWD

Well after being away for the weekend fishing i come back and WOW! well Kim i can't claim to know everything or truly anything about CWD but after some research through the state today,CWD is NOT passed to humans, there is to this day NO evidence in anyway to support that it does. And being a deerhunter as well, prices for butchering deer are high enough. In Illinois you can't even take a cow to the locker unless it walks in..can't process cattle if there is deer in the same room, all cattle must be in a seperate concealed cooler.and you can't call me a kiss ass to George never met the guy or even more than shared a couple e-mails.NOT being a smartass or anything but how do you claim to know so much about it..maybe it was in your post and i missed it.if i did my apologies.

And that's why Kim has earned my contempt. When CWD was a buzzword a few years back during the "Wisconsin Experiment", Kim was like a chicken on a beetle with his disinformation and doom and gloom forecasting. Both Bill Yox and I took him to task then about spreading lies and creating a panic where there never should have been one. There's absolutely too much good information out there on CWD for some jerk like Kim to try and convince others to believe his junk science.

I agree with George

Being right in the CWD Eradication zone here in Wisconsin, the only real conern is how it will affect the deer herd, otherwise we are shooting and eating deer on a regular basis.

...the biggest threat of CWD isnt the disease, but the hype that goes along with it. CWD didnt kill anybody in all these years, but now that someone in the media singles it out, that allows it to release its deadlyness? Silly isnt it. Len has always been there in the forums discussions of CWD, making sure people werent jumping to conclusions. Thanks Len!

Hear, hear, Bill

CWD (Conservation Wasting Dollars)

I live in Michigan but own farm within the "epicenter" of the Eradication Zone for CWD. A doe shot on our farm was the 3rd deer that tested positive (large 7 year old with twin fawns from previous year - was shot in Feb at request of DNR Big Game Specialist). Personally, the media hype absolutely ruined hunting in lower Wisconsin. The DNR had media coverage and support for their actions, inluding Sharpshooters (DNR employees transferred in from other areas) and baitstations. Today (4 years later) and $18 million fewer State/Federal funds, CWD is considered fairly controlled by reducing the herd size. Many communities suffered significant loss in hunting dollars during this time and I'm not sure if we ever were at significant risk... all I know is that I am sick and tired of seeing people shoot deer for the $20 bounty which then was used for beer money. Only God knows, but if everyone over the age of 50 was shot, would we have a problem with Althizemer's Disease? Seems to me this logic was used on CWD.
