Years ago, I'd have said just DP it

And it will work just fine but on those delicate little critters, I take some peace of mind by tanning them. Newborns are prone to slipping anyway and tanning reduces that significantly.

i just mounted one last week with d.p.

Iv'e done both dP and Tanning and I prefer Tan as Dp will eventually cause the skin to crack & possibly peel in a few years. I have been tanning for the past 8 years and have no problem.

No One has lied so far

I too have done fawns using both methods. Fawn ranging in age from a few hours old, to a few months. I currently have 3 on display at my cabin, and 4 in the shop. the oldest was DP it is in the shop. A controlled environment and has no cracks, or hair loss. then next oldest is at the cabin it was tanned. No heat most of the year. and during hunting season it can be 40 one minuet and 75 the next. the feet of this mount are cracking just above the hoof. and mice have chewed the nose a bit. other than that it looks good. there is also a DPed fawn at the cabin. but it is only 6 years old. all the others look great. so basically i would say the decision is up to you. Like George. I do often fine new borns to be delicate, and to tend to want to slip. Personaly I think it is the salt that holds the hair. but I do not recommend salting, and DPing. in time the mount looses it luster badly.
