I got my deer back from the taxidermist and he really didnt do a very good job. Anyways, he put stain on the antlers which made them have a matte finish and just dont look right, how do I get the stain off? Also, has anyone heard or seen an antler get a long crack in it from drying? Thanks

acetone or steel wool - antler could crack from drying

Why did he stain them?

Did you have some antler repair work done?

Are you sure he stained them? Some antlers are naturally dark...

He told me he stained them, the antlers were not real dark, more of a grayish brown, but darker than your average rack, kind of like mule deer color antlers. they had some reddish discoloration on the last 6" of the beams. One side was split/cracked about 8" long. I took it back for him to fix.
