deer antler mount trouble

I recently shot my first deer and bought an antler mounting kit to try and mount it myself. I'm having trouble with affixing the gold braided rope to the antler bases. I can't seem to get it right. The rope never seems to look correct-always awkward. Do you have any suggestions on attaching the rope in a way that looks half decent? Perhaps the problem is that the mount plate is not close enough to the base of the antlers. Also do you use a specific glue to make it work best?

if the base is too far awat from antler burr take your saw zall and cut the back of skull down a bit so that your antler burrs are almost touching the wood. as for the gold braid it's probably unraveling on you i cut the braid the proper length and immediatly wrap small pieces of tape around the tips to keep it from unraveling then shoot a beed of hot glue on back pedicle and wrap the rope around and be done with it hope this helps.

thanks and one more question

Thanks alot. That definetely helps. I reattached the rope today and it looks great. I got it all the way around the antlers, the rope didn't unravel, and I'm happy with it. One more question, though. Do you glue the rope all the way around or just glue the ends? Or is there another way to attach it? Thanks again!

maybe

sometimes if the braid wants to roll up or won't stay still i wiil add very small amount of hot glue or super glue under the braid to keep it in one place
