How Many Seal the Antlers

Submitted by Chad on 3/14/06 at 9:11 PM. ( ) 64.136.26.235

I looked on the archives and found many different discussions on what some seal antlers with. I have been a hobbiest for 7 or 8 years now and have never sealed any antlers and they all still look as good as the day they were shot (50+ heads). never been in direct sunlight or smokey environment.. I was just curious on how many of you seal or don't seal the antlers?
I try to take pride in my own work and don't want all the work waisted years from now by not simply sealing them..
Thanks
Chad

Why would you seal them?

Nature doesn't so I don't. When they begin to dry out, I paint them with my favorite 50/50 Linseed/turpentine solution and wipe off the excess. Keeps the antlers natural looking.

I just wash them with water before mounting them and then when I finish the mount I apply Pledge to a rag and wipe them to give them some luster and that's it. I've got some antlers that still look good and they were shot over 50 years ago.
