Studying eye reference..

So it's Friday night and I'm studying deer eye reference :-) The picture I'm studying is of a deer with it's head level. The top of the iris starts a 1/4" below the upper lid. The lower part of the iris is 3/4" away from the lower lid.

Here's my question, I know that the iris stays level with the ground until the head is tilted backwards, but what happens to the spacing between the two lids? Does the iris get closer to either lid or does it stay generally 1/4" from the top and 3/4" away from the bottom? I'd post the picture I'm looking at but I don't know if it's been copyrighted. I really need to get into a pen with some deer :-)

Closer to bottom

The only two pictures I have in that position show the iris to be closer to the bottom lid. One shows white at the top of the eye, the other shows a tad bit of white in the back corner. BP

It depends on what the deer is looking at

Lou - I think you mean the pupil stays level to the ground and not the iris when the deer is looking straight ahead or lowers it's head. The orientation of the pupil and the amount of white showing in the eye all depends on the eye rotation and what the deer is looking at.

You'e right....

I went typed the same thing Lou did, iris instead of pupil, knowing that was not right, but did it anyway. Was one of those days. LOL

I have a photo for you...

I have a really good photo for your eye issue. The photo is taken from the front of the deer as I was feeding it (so in a line...me, camera, lens, deer's nose and back to the eyes etc) The deer is focused straight ahead looking at me and the food he was about to eat. I think the photos becky is speaking of are from me but I'm not sure.
