Deer Eye ?

Submitted by Silverado44 on 3/22/06 at 5:34 PM. ( ) 66.97.229.54

I;ve been using Tohicon Pre-Rotated eyes for some time now but I have a question about the pupil positon while setting them. With regular eyes I have always used a level to level the pupil to the world.......no matter what position the head was in. I am wondering if the pupil is always level with the world or would it change based on head position?

I know how to set the eyes for the white bands but if I'm using pre-rotated eyes looking to the right and I am using a form that has the head slightly up (McKenzie semi-sneak head up)should I be setting the pupil to some reference on the form rather than using a level and leveling to the world?

I checked the archives but found nothing about this.

Thanks

I just clicked the orange SEARCH icon and I typed in "deer pupil leveling". There are three solid responses listed. Then I typed in just "deer pupil" and I found 64 responses to that.

Depends on what you search for I guess

Well I searched for "setting pre-rotated eyes", "setting eyes" and one other search which I don't recall. I read many of the posts in those searchs and found nothing about the pupils I spent at least 30 minutes looking at my search hits. Should have tried pupils but had tunnel vision with setting and eyes as keywords....my bad.

I will try "deer pupil leveling".

George you are very knowlegable & valuable here. I have been coming to this site for a long time, mostly just reading or searching and reading. I don't deserve the sarcastic title of your response.

I could see your point if I was always asking questions on here, but I am not. I simply did not find anything in my searchs and if you don't believe that or think I am stupid because I didn't use the correct keywords in my search........well you are entitled to your opinion. But if thats the way you feel then you can bite me :)

With that I would like to thank you for pointing me to the correct keywords.............I am going to go reading now!

Silver, I don't know what to say to you. You evidently DID use the archives, but because of so many subjects, I guess you've learned that you have to be very specific in what you ask. I'm sorry you were offended, but think about it from my perspective. I knew that the question had been answered dozens of times and I see you post that you've looked there and found nothing. Now if the roles were reversed, and I told you something like that, what would YOU reply?

And just some unasked for advice. Can the pre-rotated eyes. They're more of an anomoly than useful. If you use the IQ or the Joe Meder eye, you'll find that you have so much more lattitude in your work that you don't have with the PR eyes.

George.......not really offended per say

George, I'm not really offended per say.....or at least if one would consider it offended then I'm not real offended. I took your title to imply that I had not searched at all & you thought I was a liar.

The way I would have answered the post was like this.

Silver, not sure what keywords you searched for but try "pupil leveling" I know you will find some info there.

George

Interesting about the IQ or Joe Meder eyes. I have never tried them, could you elaborate a little more on the advantages?

Silver

Those two type eyes are realistic reproductions....

...of the shape of a real eye. As such, you can use clay and tip the back slightly or forward slightly and get a great appearance of real eye rotation. You'll also find it much easier to clay that shape in an eye since it's not perfectly spherical like the PR eye is. Once you use them, you'll never go back.

Will have to try

I've been a little reluctant to try them, as by nature most of us are creatures of habit and afraid of trying something different if what we have been doing seems to be working. Especially on a customer's, but now you have me very curious and I'll have to give them a try..........Thanks

Silver
