Iam trying to fix a set of horns that were shot in two, the main beam is completly broke off one side. I dilled holes have 2 wires in, and apoxied it last night but it did not adhear to the horns. Do you have to put some type of glue on them first, than use epoxy sculpt?

Apoxie-sculpt....very sticky stuff

Aaron, As a rule apoxie is very sticky. If you dampen your fingers or mix water while mixing it will not be as sticky. Also if cold it will resist clinging some. Clean the surface, mix WELL 50/50 apply warm and then wet your fingers or modeling tool to press and smooth the stuff. If your apoxie-sculpt is old and drying out you can revitalize it with a short trip in the microwave oven. Enjoy, Aaron H.

I use Head Lock epoxie

I have fixed many horns. Just recently finished a set that was broke off between the G1 & G2.

I drill a hole in both sides and use a heavy piece of wire ( 1/8 inch). I drill the hole plenty big and fill with Head Lock which is a two part epoxie I use for my ear liners. I then put a thin coat on both antler pieces, insert the wire and put the two parts together. I use clamps to hold the horns together while the glue sets. After set up I use epoxie sculp to fill in any areas that need it...then add color. This has always worked great for me.

Good Luck

Aaron, something's missing here

I've used Apoxie since it came on the market and never had a bit of problems with it adhering to the antlers. Did you clean and rough up the juncture? That may be some of your problem, but still, it surprises me.

Are you sure its not sticking to the antler? or is it...

That it's not sticking to the rod? If you made your conclusion because when you tested it, the antler was able to turn or spin, what it might be is that the apoxi is not sticking to the rod. This is if the rod is a round shaft and smooth, that can happen. If you find this is the case you either have to find a square rod or notch your round rod in several places or better yet get a threaded rod and notch it still. I've had this problem before. The square or notched rod keeps it from spinning.
