Stained deer horns

I have a pair of deer antlers that have been stained from a fire. Is there a good way or chemical that can be used to help remove the black film that was left on the antlers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are the antlers unattached?

If they are simply antlers, dissolve a quarter cup of Dawn in a large bucket and let the antlers set in it overnight. Hose them off. If they aren't cleaned by this method, I'd suggest bleaching. Put 2 cups of Clorox ina clean bucket filled with water. Let it set for about 4 hours. Remove, hose of, allow to dry and then restain them using potassium permanganate.
