I came across really nice set deer antlers (5x5) mounted on a plaque at an estate auction. The problem is they have been covered it what seems to be like some type of clear coat or poly. Its a very sloppy job with several large runs.(Only paid 3 bucks for it...cant expect to much i guess LOL) I was wondering what would be the easiest way to clean them off? Im sure mineral spirits or something similar would work but not for sure what kind effect it would have on the antlers themselves. I was able to take my pocket knife and scrape a smaller portion clean so i know its not on that thick. I am not a taxidermist, but have found this site very interresting. So plz dont blast me for asking a simple question. thanks in advance.

ONE OF THEM SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSES POLY. I know, I put it there so if you didn't find anything useful there, you're not going to find anything useful here.
