Water head

I know occasionally deer will have fluid pool in the head area when hung upside down. I just skinned one that was this way and talk about a sloppy mess! This was the first one that I've ever had come in like that. Does anyone actually know why this happens? I couldn't get over how the tissue just seemed engorged with fluid!

I had a Deer come in the guy was saying look how big his head is, this is the biggest one i have killed yet, his head is real huge i hope you can find a "Body" to fit it ,LOL(usually the Antlers or the body are the biggest )I said yeah it sure is big (eyes were bulging mine :) )did you hang it up by its back feet? its probally fluid build up if so. he said no it was skinned out just as soon as they got him back to camp ok so when i made my first

Maybe the guy hosed it off.

Or maybe he clubbed it to death and the tissues had time to swell before it died.

Swelling is caused by fluid. I see it on legs that have been caught in a trap.

Never seen it an the head though, that's a new one.

Should be easy to mount, just put a balloon in the head!

We talk about this every year around deer season. Its in the archives, even though many dont wanna hear that! But its there, and we spoke at length about it. I recall George, me, many others, including John Bellucci going over it. I still think some carcasses drain that way, and some simply do not. Its a mess either way, though!

I know Bill...the archives

but to be honest they are getting soooo full, it takes longer to read through them than bug the piss out of people like George and get a quick answer by not doing it. LOL Besides, if everyone utilized the archives to the extent that they could, I suspect there would not be anymore postings except in the Current Events. Have a good one guys, thanks for your responses.

We had one caused

the guy hung it by the hind legs & filled the chest cavity with ice guess where the melt water ended up.

I shot a doe on year for the freezer and had it hanging outside in a tree by the legs. It got really cold and snowed. I had the deer covered with a tarp. The tarp blew off and the chest cavity filled up with snow. Then it got really warm and the snow melted. Then I had a doe with a head bigger then the nice buck hanging next too it. A WATER HEAD doe. He probable hosed the chest cavity out.

What I do is just mention that its in the archives. That way, if someone DOES feel like reading more, he knows its there. I just got too lazy to type the whole answer anymore though...lol. No harm done!
