lacquer and modge podge

Submitted by Chris on 6/14/06 at 12:15 PM. ( ) 71.82.61.115

I couldn't seem to find in the archives an answer to this question. I just started using lacquer paints and was wondering if you can put modge podge over lacquer based paint or lacquer paint over modge podge without problems?

Thanks
Chris

I coat the front side of fish fins before painting and sometimes after painting never had a problem.

Should be fine...

...just make sure the paint and/or the modge podge is thoroughly dry.

In fact, when doing fins you're going to want to put a laquer-based sealer coat on those fins BEFORE any water-based reinforcement is applied. Otherwise you will rehydrate the fins and they will start to shrivel...

Not the fish category but

I didn't know i had to explain the fin procedure the question was about compatibility of mod podge with lacquer.
First brush on flexible fin glue on one side of fin then immediately on other side that way the fins do not curl.
After glue dries brush on mod podge front side only, will not rehydrate fin or glue, seals surface so final clear on fins doesn't soak in and require more clear, for some reason fins soak up coatings more than the skin of the fish. Don't even argue the curling problem, been doing it this way for over 15 years and fins always come out flat, which is not natural anyway.

Well I read your first response Mike...

And mistakingly continued with the fin talk!

"Curling" is probably not the right word. If you don't seal your fish fins first with something you WILL rehydrate the fins. No matter if you've been doing this 15 years or 15 minutes. Fortunately the Modge Podge, Sobo Glue, Tuffin, (whatever) dries fairly quickly and you won't see much difference. But, if you look closely between the spines at the rays you WILL get "wrinkles" where it's been rehydrated IF you don't first seal those fins. So although "curling" was probably an incorrect term, "WRINKLING" between the spines WILL happen if you don't seal them first...

Hmmm

Checked display and waiting customer fish NO WRINKLES. inexperience showing inexperience what to do. The beat goes on.
